Australian Resume
These days, Australia is becoming a hot destination for job seekers in the field like tourism, software, hospitality etc. If you plan to take up a job in Australia, you need to format your resume in Australian style. There are minor differences like changes in spelling and the manner of arranging information can make a huge difference in the resume and the ability to survive in the competitive job arena.
The motive of the Australian resume is to get a call for a personal interview from the employer. It has to be used as a marketing tool to enter the job market.
The following points need to be used while formatting the Australian resume:
- The candidate has to write his full name in bold in center at the top of the page.
- Underneath the name, type the name of the country in which you have the citizenship. You need to give the type of visa you hold, number and its expiry date. The date has to be written in day/month/year.
- After that you need to write your mailing address and residence address.
- In the next line include your mobile number.
- All the above information should be centrally aligned.
- Next step is to write "Summary of Skills" in bold with an underline. This should be aligned to the left side of the page. Below the heading, you need to include your skills and certifications that you possess. The Australians use Australian English so the words like "analyzed" is spelt as "analysed". Make sure you are careful with the spellings.
- To start new section Work Experience, skip a space, give the heading in bold and underline it as shown. In this category, you need to mention the dates of employment, name of the company, job location and designations. You need to include the responsibilities and duties that you carried out at each of the jobs. Begin with the recent job and move backwards.
- After this section, skip a space and mention the section "Education" in bold with an underline. In this section, you have to include the degrees that you possess, names of schools and colleges attended, year of passing.
- At the end of the resume, prepare a category called as "Special interest" in bold with an underline. This section will have a bullet list of your hobbies, languages that you speak and write and personal interests. This last part will personalize the resume.
